Kicker Brad Craddock Signs with the Cleveland Browns

E-mail Print

2010 saw Brad Craddock like so many young Australians enquire about punting, and whether it would be something for them.  Brad attend a camp, the rest is history as they say, that day started Brad’s journey, Brad was on a path that today would lead him to being signed to the Cleveland Browns.

Of course a lot has happened between 2010 and 2016, let alone all the awards Brad would win as a Kicker, Brad would break numerous school and conference records while winning the respect of team mates, coaches, and the media to name a few.

Most people trying for a Punting position at College only train at their Punting, but Brad was also good at kick offs and field goals.  Being good at all three had Brad working harder than your normal Punter.  Goals were set, training programs set up, Brad was now ready to achieve his goal, the first one being getting into a College on a Scholarship.

A lot of time went into ensuring Brad was at the right school for him, and hard decisions had to be made by Brad and his family on where Brad would end up.  History tells us that Brad selected Maryland, but other schools had wanted Brad as their Punter.  Brad informed these other Coaches that he trained with others who he thought would be good for their school.  By doing this Brad had helped other Punters and Kickers get their opportunity at an American College.  I know they are grateful for Brad; the education they receive cannot be understated.

I know brad worked hard, and overcame a lot of hurdles to get him where he is today.  Anyone who knows Brad knows this, and there is so much I could write about with regard to what these were.   I feel the important thing is that no matter what came Brad’s way he approached it willing to give his all.

Watching Brad achieve his goals and grow over the past 6 years has brought a lot of joy my way and I could not be anymore prouder of him then I am and have always been.  Continue to set big goals Brad as I am sure this is just another step down the path started all those years ago.

Punter Lachlan Edwards drafted by the New York Jets

E-mail Print

It was with great pleasure learning of Lachlan Edwards being drafted by the New York Jets today in the NFL draft.

From the first time I had the opportunity to Coach Lachlan, I knew he had the ability to become an NFL Punter.  With a natural drop and a strong ability to learn Punting, Lachlan began his journey towards meeting his Punting goals.

With existing OzPunt Punter Matthew Foster graduating from Sam Houston State University, a door was open for Lachlan to replace Matthew.  Due to the great role Matthew had played at Sam Houston State University, Special Teams Coach Discher was happy to sit with me and evaluate the film put together on Lachlan.  Shortly after our meeting Lachlan was offered a scholarship to Sam Houston State University; Coach Discher had recognised the Punting ability in Lachlan.

The hard work was just about to start for Lachlan, transferring from Ballarat University in Victoria; Australia, Lachlan took on extra studies in the American Summer, and continued to perform just as well in the class room as he did on the football field.  When I meet with people who have either played with and or Coached Lachlan, they all mention that ‘he is one hell of a Punter, but what he does in the class room is exceptional’.  Lachlan’s hard work in the class room led to him being an academic all-conference punter for three years.  One NFL Coach informed me that it was not just the hard work he puts into his football, he was impressed with the hard work he put into his studies.

The next part of Lachlan’s football career is about to start with the New York Jets.  With Lachlan’s ability to embrace hard work I’m sure we will all watch Lachlan continue Punting for many more years to come.

Success does not come from just focusing on kicking a football; you need to focus on all the aspects you have some control over.  Lachlan has modelled this for all of us setting a goal, congratulations Lachie it has been a pleasure watching your journey, and I look forward to what the future holds.

American Coaches to Attend OzPunt Camp

E-mail Print

Hello,

I wanted to let you know about a fantastic upcoming opportunity for you on Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of February in Melbourne.

OzPunt and Chris Sailer will be running a 2 day camp!!!

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has wanted to know whether they are good enough for American Football as a Punter or Kicker.

Chris Sailer from Chris Sailer Kicking is America’s largest Kicking and Punting academy, and to date no one in the US has helped more American guys into the college system.  Every year Chris Sailer Kicking has assisted numerous people starting their College and even NFL careers. More importantly, the guys starting college are on Full Scholarships.

Over the years OzPunt has had a number of guys showcasing there ability to Chris Sailer who’s training and scouting has helped them get into College.

In the past seeing Chris meant you would need to fly to the US and kick at a camp in Las Vegas.  But now thanks to Chris coming here you have saved yourself the flight and costs associated with going over to see him.

When everything is added up (camp costs, flights, accommodation, car hire, etc), previous camps in America would be well over $3,000.  The cost for the weekend camp here in Melbourne is only $330. This is a huge saving of time and money for you!

I strongly recommend that if you really want to know whether Punting or Kicking is for you, or want an Expert’s opinion on your ability; then make it along to this camp.

Brad Craddock – Wins Lou Groza Award 2014 – Best Kicker in the Nation!

E-mail Print

Hi,

Congratulations to OzPunt and Maryland Footballs Brad Craddock for winning the Lou Groza Award.  The Lou Groza award is presented to the best College Kicker in the Nation.

Brad was one of 3 Finalists, and it was no surprise to anyone who has seen Brad play or train that he would be this year’s winner.  It is staggering to see all of the kind words from people who know Brad from both here in Australia and America.

The voting panel of 300 consist of Division 1 head coaches, sports writers and sportscasters from across the county, conference representatives, professional kickers and previous winners.  The Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award has become the most prestigious college football award for kickers.

Brads season has seen him set a number of school conference records due his very accurate kicking ability.  No Australian has ever won this award, so Brad is in a class of his own, and will be looked up to by the next crop of Aussie kickers coming through the system.

I look forward to who will be the first person to come along to a training session and lets me know they want to be just like Brad Craddock.
